Mpox is a relatively rare virus that's primarily spread through extended periods of close physical contact with someone who has it.
In spring 2023 we saw a small uptick in cases in Canada, and again in spring/summer 2024, mainly travel-related and local acquisitions in major centres like Toronto and Montreal. While the numbers aren’t high, health officials across the world are urging folks who may be at risk to get vaccinated. In Canada this primarily means men who have sex with men (MSM). Someone who has 2 doses is considered fully vaccinated.
